The Snatch

The more technical and more explosive of the two lifts, the snatch looks like a great way to dislocate both of your shoulders. Done correctly, it's a picture book demonstration of grace, speed, and power. How is it done?

The snatch is performed in one continuous movement. The bar is brought from the platform to a position overhead using one fluid motion. The lifter pulls the bar up from the platform. When the bar reaches the lifter's chest, he or she then leaps into a squat position under the bar, securing it overhead with arms held straight. Once the lifter has accomplished that impracticable move, he or she must stand upright. Sounds impossible. It almost is.
