Perhaps it's true that "youth is wasted on the young," since we're baffled when we see so few teens working out. It's almost as if kids are too consumed with being kids to realize how much they'd benefit from even a modest gym routine. Not only is it a wonderful outlet for youthful enthusiasm, it's certainly time well spent away from video games and/or TV. (We certainly wish we'd lifted regularly during our own teen years.)

So far we've listed a dozen reasons why you should lift weights—and we haven't even tossed in the exaggerated claims that lifting will immediately improve your personality, bolster your performance at work, and help lower the gross national product. However, after all that you may still have reservations about heading to the gym. After all, there are plenty of myths floating around. We hope the words that follow will put your mind at ease.
