During the millions of years in which the human species was evolving, our bodies developed to accomplish certain basic tasks: running, jumping, climbing; throwing, hitting, and twisting to dodge throws and hits; pushing things away, pulling them closer; lifting things off the ground, throwing things down to the ground; squatting down, lunging forward.

We can still create hundreds of exercises based on those actions, but we can also eliminate an even greater number of exercises that have nothing to do with basic human movement.
