My Making and Keeping Friends Review

Highly Recommended

This is one of the best books I have read on this field. The writing style was simple and engaging. Content included was worth reading spending my precious time.

When compared to other e-books and paper publications I have read, I consider this to be the bible for this topic. Get this and you will never regret the decision.

Authors Acknowledgments

And we'd each like to extend our thanks to each other's family and support networks. Our combined contacts and friendships have made this book possible. Thanks to my family my sisters and brothers, who are my best friends and who, even though they sometimes think I'm crazy, always have supported and encouraged me in my endeavors. My dad who has always been there for me and my mom who continues to watch over me.

Bottomline Bodybuilding

I suppose I should also warn you about my approach. I've been accused of coming on strong, being overly direct and lacking tact. Guilty as charged. In my personal life, I like to think of myself as an amiable, personable fellow. One might say charming , thank you very much. But I'm not here to make friends. This information is geared for people who want the straight, gritty truth. Sure, I can buffer it with comments such as on the other hand or everybody is entitled to their opinion or some people say But I won't. If I don't believe an opinion has merit, I'm not going to validate it and I won't insult you, the reader, by attempting to play every angle. I want to share over 30 years of unbiased experience with you. I will not patronize or condescend. I may not be subtle, polite or politically correct. I may even be a little gruff at times. But the way I see it, if you want to clean out a sewer you have to expect to get down into it and get dirty. That's why I'll continue to dispel the...

The Proof Is In The Proverbial Pudding

My good friend Mike Boyle, CSCS, makes a great point when he talks about various reasons why the gym-going masses are so out of tune with the highly effective mode of interval-style cardio. The point he makes is that from a media point of view we are nun-dated with elliptical machines, treadmills, and other traditional aerobic training machines and programs. People want quick fixes and an easy path to their goals. All the while the research against these methods is so glaring and one sided from time effectiveness to fat loss to fitness improvements.

Stop right now and do the exercise

Now make a list of all of the things about your life that will improve once you've achieved your highest-priority 1-year goal. Things such as the new doors that will open up for you, the increased energy you'll have, the richer friendships you may have, the more confidence you'll feel, etc. Make sure to have at least twenty-five items on your list.

Frequency and timing of free meals

With few exceptions, I feel that all dieters, regardless of what category they are in should incorporate, 1 or 2 free meals per week into their diet. This includes bodybuilders getting ready for a contest although they may find that structured refeeds (discussed next chapter) are a little more appropriate. A good friend, David Greenwalt (author of the excellent book The Leanness Lifestyle) has prepared for bodybuilding contests, reaching 4-5 bodyfat while including free meals into his diet.

AC Where can people read more about your theories and programs

Jim Wendler- my good friend who has a great way of simplifying everything Dave Tate- another friend who has tons of experience and great ideas CJ Murphy- a lunatic like myself who knows a ton about strongman training Alwyn Cosgrove- I always read your Q&A and listen to you speak whenever I can and I am always impressed

Change How You See Yourself and Youll Change How Others See

The reality is that all of us can take charge of our lives and shape our destinies through a planned program of visualization exercises that can truly make us winners in all departments of life in our physical health, our careers, our family relationships, our friendships, and virtually every other aspect as well.

You must take action You cant just assume youll miraculously get back to your normal self You cant just sit around and

Put yourself into the third person and then view your situation. In other words, step out of yourself for a moment and examine your circumstances as a good friend would. It's my belief that, when we feel that our challenges in life are unique to us, we have a much more difficult time dealing with them.

The Pursuit of Excellence

Though I wrote this book as both a motivational mainspring and a manual of the most up-to-date methods for generating massive improvements in metabolism, each and every one of my clients has gone on to apply the material contained herein to the improvement of other aspects of their life. I suggest that you do the same. Look upon the program outlined in this book as your opportunity to accept responsibility for your fate and to set out to achieve a state of well-being that comes from a balance of winning in all departments of your life your career, your family, your friendships, your health, and your appearance. It all

Recipes by Allie Faden

Due to her interest in cooking (she is currently finishing work on a cookbook) and the requests from individuals on my forum, my good friend Allie was nice enough to work up some recipes for use on the crash diet PSMF. If nothing else, it should help give you some ideas of what kinds of things to eat on the diet. While the majority of recipes are main meals, a few dessert options appear at the end. Her cookbook can be ordered (when it's completed) from her website

Acknowledgements

In moments of truth you know who your real friends are. I want to thank Zvika Elgat, the godfather of my newborn son Nehemiah, for his friendship, unconditional love and support. I also want to acknowledge Dr. Carlon Colker and Pavel Tsatsouline for their persistent encouragement. A special thanks to John Du Cane, the publisher of The Warrior Diet, for his vital contribution to the creative process, commitment to this project, and for his wisdom, friendship, and encouragement.

Special Thanks

Peter Hauser, for his excellent eye for detail and incredible management skills. Gunner Shroy, for lending us his photography skills. Kari Monkey Hauser, for always making us laugh and for getting her hands nice and dirty. Mike Hill, our marketing partner, for his guru-like wisdom. And to all our clients and friends who hung in there while we perfected the EODD Principles Above all else, we would like to express our gratitude for our friendship. This book was written because of the love we have for each other.

Visualize

Having a specific goal also helps you keep tabs on your progress as week after week you get to see the pounds vanishing. So when you've sent 15 of those 35 pounds reeling into oblivion, you know you're almost halfway there. After so many years as the enemy, the bathroom scale and the measurirg tape are about to become some of your best friends. The mirror, too. You know that mirror, the one you could barely look at And when you did, some overweight person you barely recognized stared back.

An illustration

I sometimes do multiple work sets, but never more than 3. In fact, I've spent most of my training life doing 3 work sets per exercise, but my friendship with Drew Israel influenced me to try one-set-to-failure (for work sets). For the last few years I've used the one-set-to-failure approach a lot, and experienced great results.

Pinpointing portions

Restaurants don't make friends by serving up teensy little portions. In fact, tiny servings probably sank nouvelle cuisine, the 1980s fad that put one string bean, three garden peas, half an artichoke heart, and one sliced cherry tomato on a lettuce leaf and called it the salad course.

Dinitrophenol

This was truly reported as chemical exercise. Normally the mitochondria process that converts ADP (adenosine diphosphate) into ATP (adenosine triphosphate) is about 60 efficient, which means there is a great deal of energy wasted. Those who have read the creatine section ahead of this are well aware of our good friend ATP. When we exercise, this process accelerates and raises our metabolic rate. (More calories are burned as a result) The process is called oxidative phosphorylation. Since ATP is the high-energy chemical our bodies utilize for intense training, anything that compromises this process will make cellular mitochondria work harder and expend more energy as heat. (Body temperature rises)

Nonweighted GPP

Lateral Jumps offer a convenient way to incorporate non-weighted GPP with weighted gPp. Later in this chapter, I will demonstrate several weighted GPP movements. Many involve our good friend the sandbag. You can begin by carrying the sandbag (weighted) and occasionally stop for a set of Lateral Jumps (non-weighted) over the bag.

Your Social Life

Forging friendships with teachers and fellow students will not only make your time in school more productive and enjoyable, but can also make the transition from student to fitness instructor or personal trainer easier. Your teachers have knowledge and experience that may benefit you in school and after

The Notsofine Print

We didn't write it for guys who have already spent successful, productive years in the weight room, or who are competitive athletes or aspiring bodybuilders or power-lifters. We like those guys just fine our best friends and our most respected colleagues are all lifelong lifters, some of whom are accomplished athletes and guys who've won powerlifting and bodybuilding titles.
